At 7:30 a.m. on October 24, all Party members set off in a convoy for the Memorial Site of the New Fourth Army Headquarters in Yansi, Huizhou District, Huangshan City, a national patriotic education base. After a three-hour drive, the group arrived at the destination.
Guided by the docent, the Party members visited the New Fourth Army History Exhibition Hall in an orderly manner. The exhibition consists of six sections, namely the Yansi Assembly Hall, the Eastward Oath Hall, the Civil-Military Bond Hall, the Resistance Campaign Hall and the Iron Army Heritage Hall.
Through restored scenes and historical relics, participants learned that in the spring of 1938, Red Army guerrilla units from eight southern provinces assembled and reorganized here. The New Fourth Army Headquarters stationed in Yansi, completed troop inspection, training and oath-taking mobilization, before marching eastward to the frontline of resistance against Japanese aggression. Yansi is the birthplace and departure point of the New Fourth Army, where the timeless Iron Army Spirit originated.
[Prologue | Birth of the New Fourth Army]
Here, visitors learn about the historical background of the founding of the New Fourth Army.
[Yansi Assembly | Eight Provinces Converge]
The hall recreates how Red Army guerrilla units from 14 guerrilla zones across eight southern provinces broke through blockades and converged on Yansi. It documents the relocation of the Army Headquarters to Yansi, troop inspection, organizational restructuring, as well as political and military training, and presents the revolutionary activities carried out in Yansi by headquarters leaders including Ye Ting and Xiang Ying.
[Eastward Pledge | Oath and Advance]
The hall highlights the formation of the Advance Detachment and the oath-taking departure on April 28. Through vintage photographs and combat maps, it restores the grand scene of detachments setting out in batches for the enemy rear areas in Central China, and the mobilization rally at the reviewing stand by Wenfeng Pagoda.
[Civil-Military Bond | United as One]
Through scene recreations and sculptures, the hall vividly presents the heartwarming stories of the New Fourth Army at Yansi: publicizing resistance against Japanese aggression, assisting impoverished residents, working in farm fields, and touring performances by the Field Service Corps. It also records local residents supporting the frontline and sending their sons to enlist, fully reflecting the close bond between the army and the people.
[Resistance Campaign | Fierce Battles]
The hall presents the momentous history of the New Fourth Army advancing into the enemy rear areas south and north of the Yangtze River, conducting guerrilla warfare, establishing resistance base areas, launching operations against enemy “mopping-up” campaigns, and advancing the national united front for resistance against Japanese aggression.
[Legacy | The Iron Army Spirit Endures]
The hall explains the rich connotations of the Iron Army Spirit, reviews the subsequent development and reorganization of the New Fourth Army, and showcases contemporary efforts to inherit and carry forward this spirit and conduct revolutionary education.
[Oath Renewal | Forging Ahead]
After the tour, all Party members gathered at the Army Headquarters Square. Facing the bright red Party flag and the group sculpture of New Fourth Army leaders, they solemnly renewed the CPC admission oath. The resonant oath echoed across the square, reinforcing their ideals and convictions.
